This scent may possibly be the best thing I've ever smelled. I first came across Maison Louis Marie back at L'Oreal when a colleague of mine was wearing it. My first question was, "Are you wearing Le Labo Santal 33?" And his answer was, "Everyone always assumes that, but actually no. It's a French brand called Maison Louis Marie."
The next thing I knew, I was rushing to the few stores in NYC that carried it and bought a bottle of Maison Louis Marie No. 04 Bois de Balincourt. It's now carried at Sephora, so I'm sure it will soon be all the rage! The company dates back to 1792, when Louis Marie Aubert du Petit Thouars, a pioneer in French botanical history, discovered a vast array of plant specimens during the French Revolution.
What makes this particular scent a hit for me, is that it's unisex, but more on the darker side. I always gravitate towards a woody scent anytime of the year and the No. 04 is a sandalwood fragrance with dominant cedarwood notes on top. The mid notes are vetiver, nutmeg and cinnamon with the base note being amber wood.
This perfume oil is the ideal balance of earthy and floral, without being too feminine. I'd highly recommend it for any season and will be purchasing this for the rest of my days. My former colleague even told me that everyone who's asked about it has bought it. Maybe you will too!
